Too Much Spin
Home Up Slicing Hooking Low Ball Too Much Spin Back Spin

You first of all have to understand that backspin comes from club head speed and the angle of attack. You will not want to give up that club head speed as this is a fine attribute to have. A few checks are as follows:

  • Maybe a simple change of the golf ball to Callaway HX would make an impact.
  • Make sure that the grooves in your clubs are only the V type and not U or Square Groove for that matter.
  • Another way around this is to work on flatting out the swing which would help out a great deal.
  • Check that you don't have too steep a downswing. The best way to know if you swing the club to steep is to check how deep your divots are.

If you still get to much backspin, maybe you should try the Ben Hogan Apex irons. I personally use the Callaway X Tour clubs to get more spin. However, I did use the Ben Hogan Apex clubs for quite a few years. Either way I'm sure you will also appreciate the feel that the forged clubhead will give.
