Teeing grounds are the introduction to the hole and course about to be played. They are extremely important part of the design, therefore alot of thought should be given as to the design. I prefer a tee that is not too wide and be reasonably level, however it doesn't need to be perfectly flat either. A little undulation on the tee can make it easier to hit the shot that is desired; like keeping the ball down into the wind by teeing up on a down slope. It shouldn't be the size of a footy field, as the golfer can only use two club lengths behind the markers anyway. Almost all courses that I have ever played only utilise about 60% of the tee at most. Therefore a lot of wasted effort in keeping the extra teeing ground maintained.
