Long bunker shot

The most feared shot in golf is definitely the long bunker shot from 30 metres. Over my 25 year career I worked out that it is a much higher percentage to use a 7,8 or 9 iron rather than a sand-wedge or lob-wedge.

Play the ball in the same position as normal, grip at the bottom of the grip towards the shaft. Your swing plane will be just left of your target with an open club face. As you will be using a less lofted iron it will now roll out on the green and hopefully close to the hole.

Spending many hours in the sand experimenting with different clubs will give you a good idea how the ball will react on the green. With a little practice this shot will help you to shoot lower scores.
